Inumako's Cosplay Guide
welcome to my Naruto cosplay guide! here i will share you the tips and tricks on how to make Naruto cosplay considered to my cosplay experiences. hopefully it will be a helpful guide for Naruto cosplayers out there ^,^
Basic Items : headbands, sandals, black pants, kunai and kunai case, shuriken and shuriken case, samurai sword, white socks, etc.
Akatsuki
it's my first official Naruto cosplay. let's start with the cloak. i needed 10m of black cotton fabric and 2,5m of red satin. cut the red satin in Akatsuki-cloud shape and sew them on the cloak. then embroider along the border with white thread. use also the red satin for the inner part of the cloak (you can ignore this part however, you'll need less red satin). i used zipper because it's more practical, i think most Akatsuki cosplayers did so. next is the amigasa or head covering of woven straw of broad conical shape (yea, you know what i mean ^ ^"). it's a common traditional item in Asia, i suggest the westerners to go to a nearby Asian traditional market to get this cap. next, cut white ribbons 40cm each, i used total 10m. then sew them around the inner part of the amigasa (except the front part). arrange red beads and chime with a red thread, sew them on the front tip of amigasa. last but not least, black nail polish (Akatsuki loves gothic ^,~) more importantly you can cosplay as any Akatsuki member with this cloak, all you need is to costumize the headband. nice, huh?!
Konoha Jounin
i wore this vest to cosplay as Konoha Jounin and Military Police. the most important part is the vest. i used 2m of army green fabric for the vest. the difficult part is the collar since it should be stuffed properly. place 2 pouches on the chest. the shirt is just a common long sleeve black shirt with turtle neck. lastly, the badge for both arm and vest. i used red satin and black threads to embroider them.
it's really simple one but i love it because i can cosplay as many different characters with this vest such as Kakashi, Iruka, Gai, Asuma, Rock Lee, Shikamaru and other Jounin or Chuunin. if you want to cosplay as Kakashi you will need a black mask and glove.
Uchiha Itachi and Sasuke
since my first Naruto cosplay as Itachi i had become a die-hard fan of this lovely-eyed character ^,~ so i decided to cosplay again as Itachi when he was a teenage.
it's the easiest cosplay i've ever done, i only needed an Uchiha shirt and black pants. i used less than 1,5m of black fabric for the shirt. most people missed this part, the inner part of the shirt is white thus you must sew white fabric underneath the black fabric. meanwhile for the emblem on the back, i used the rag of my red and white satin. you can also use this shirt to cosplay as Sasuke since it looks the same. you only need to add elbow pads, black short pants, bandages and black ribbons for the left arm and legs.
Konoha Keimu Butai or Konoha Military Police Force
i really love this cosplay because it's very rare, i've never seen anyone cosplay as Konoha Military Police Force before. actually Konoha MP is only drawn once in the manga, and the character is Uchiha Fugaku (Itachi's late father).
i didn't need to work hard on this costume since all i need is to modify my Jounin costume. i asked my aunt to sew the rear apron and stuffs. the rear apron is black with white rhomboid shapes on the lower part (check my cosplay picture next to this text). most important part is the Konoha MP emblem. it's a dark blue 4-star shuriken with an Uchiha emblem on the mid of it. sew them on both arms of the shirt.
i personally think this uniform is cooler than common Jounin uniform. you should try it! (you can see more of my Konoha MP cosplay in our cosplay gallery)
Sai (Naruto Part 2)
Sai is my most recent cosplay and my first Naruto Part 2 cosplay. at first i didn't intend to cosplay as Sai but since nobody in my team wants to cosplay as him thus i volunteer myself to cosplay as Sai. i even cutted my long hair only to cosplay as Sai Y_Y
it doesn't take much efforts for me to cosplay as Sai since his costume is quite simple. the unique point is Sai's glove, it was cutted on the thumbs and point fingers. i also made Sai's drawing book, scroll with ink drawing and brush. not to mention the white staff on right side of the back, shuriken and kunai case.
i did this cosplay with my team, NARUTIMATE, at Animonster Sound J-I Matsuri on July 30, 2006. just a lil advice, if you want to cosplay as Sai, take your friends with you to cosplay as Sakura, Naruto, Yamato or Kakashi thus you can form the New Team 7, as i did.
ANBU (Uchiha Itachi)
my 3rd cosplay as Itachi. i have 2 versions of ANBU Itachi i.e. the manga version and fanart version. the manga version is Itachi in his semi ANBU gear when he slaughtered the whole Uchiha clan in one night. meanwhile the fanart version is Itachi in full ANBU gear.
let's begin with the manga version. all you need is the Uchiha shirt, ANBU vest, Konoha headband, samurai sword, kunai or shuriken. you don't need to wear the mask.
the fanart version is more elaborate, you might need to add this and that such as red scarf. i've seen many ANBU cosplayers modified the costume, thus you may also costumize it with your own style.
the vest only needs 1,5m of white fabric. and if you ask me where did i find the mask (omen), actually i didn't make it, but i bought it at an all-Japanese-items store ^,^
Naruto Night Cap
indeed i never really wear it for cosplay, it's just one of my precious collections, along with my Naruto figures *grin* i love it so much since it's really cute.
this night cap is made by BANDAI and you can buy it at cosplay hobby store as i did.
if you want to cosplay as Naruto with this night cap, you just need to wear a pajama and that's it!
